Garfield An animated series, two horrible feature films, and over 25 years of 'fat cat likes lasagna' jokes. For a taste let's have a look at the very first Garfield comic strip.
They haven't changed a bit have they! ... Yep. 28 years later and they look a little different but Garfield still likes food and Jon's still a knob jockey. Throughout the years Jim Davis threw aside such crazy notions as 'character development', 'storylines' or 'decent jokes' and today he settles for such strip ideas as: Oh Jon. When will you ever learn? Staples don't go in the face! Good one. Apparently Jon is so mentally retarded he doesn't know how to use a stapler! I'd hate to see the wacky adventures that occur when Jon tries to open the fridge! Jim Davis likes such sophisticated humorous ideas as 'guys who are bachelors are bored lazy pigs.' In fact he likes this joke so much that he used it the next day as well: In fact Garfield doesn't move an inch between the two comics. TALK ABOUT SAVING MONEY. But why stop at just using it just twice. Why not use it three times in a row? Or even four. However this time they did up the ante and show the original and ground breaking idea that 'single men don't do dishes'. What an exciting insight to a previously un-heard of lifestyle. Staggering. So after using the same joke four times Jim closed the photo copier lid and tried to think up something new. He failed. That's right. Five days in a row Jim Davis' Garfield has used the same lame as fuck joke in a row. ... Make that six days. So there you have it: Garfield breaking down new comedic boundaries by repeating the same joke for a week. No need to flesh it out, put it in a storyline or even make it funny. Why bother when they can just re-use the panel from the day before? No wonder it got two movies. There's nothing Hollywood likes doing more than pulling out the same lame joke over and over just to cash in. How do you think Rob Schneider keeps getting work? Burn in hell Jim Davis.
